Structural bolt class & coating: match the controlling revision

A structural bolt enquiry is tied to the drawing revision that names class and coating — not a commercial hex shelf SKU and not a screws→bolts→nuts warehouse list. Lock class, coating, length, and the nut/washer set against that revision before any unit price is useful.

Define · what this RFQ is for

Use this guide when the print calls a structural bolt class (for example 8.8 or 10.9, or a project-specific callout) and a coating note on steel connections, curtain-wall steel frames, or heavy brackets. You own design loads and the inspection plan; we confirm class, coating, diameter × length, and whether the BOM is a full assembly against the controlling revision.

Pair with drawing handoff (revision first) and load-path primer, then open Enquire / RFQ. Do not mix this desk with stone undercut (G4) or chemical-anchor (G6) language in the same quote thread unless the print clearly mixes nodes.

Discuss · fields that change the quote

Each row below is a desk check. Missing rows stay Open — we do not invent certificates, plant metrics, or ranking badges on this site.

Copy into RFQ notes
  1. Strength class 8.8 vs 10.9 (or the exact project callout) changes the steel package. Write the class from the controlling revision — not a catalog default.
    • Email example: Class: 10.9 per Rev E connection schedule CS-12
    • If missing: Open — no final price
  2. Coating / finish HDG, electro-zinc, a named thin-film system, stainless, or bare — must match the print note for the environment. Do not upgrade or downgrade coating to “help” the quote.
    • Email example: Coating: HDG per Rev E; no substitute without written note
    • If missing: buyer note or Open
  3. Diameter × length Grip = plate stack + washers. Length must come from the print or a marked stack-up, not from a shelf chart alone.
    • Email example: M20 × 90 (grip 2×16 mm plate + 2 washers); confirm on RFQ
    • If missing: ask for stack
  4. Nut / washer set Full assembly (bolt + nut + washers) vs bolt-only. Hardened washers or structural nuts must be called on the BOM when required.
    • Email example: Full set: bolt + nut + 2× hardened washers per CS-12
  5. Controlling revision Class and coating often change between revisions. The RFQ thread names the revision that rules — see drawing handoff.
    • Email example: Controlling: Rev E issued 2026-09-12; superseded Rev D class notes ignored
  6. Qty band & use Discussion band is enough for the first reply: mock-up connection, one frame set, or project lot.
    • Email example: Qty band: mock-up 40 sets → project lot TBD

Structural callout vs commercial hex

  • Structural class language — class + coating + revision on the connection schedule.
  • Commercial hex shelf language — avoid on this desk; it reads like a warehouse twin and does not lock revision.
  • If the print only says “M16 hex” with no class, state Open and ask for the connection schedule before numbering.

Agree · before we number

Until the following are aligned, treat any figure as discussion only:

  • Controlling revision locked on the connection detail
  • Class (01) and coating (02) match that revision — no silent substitutes
  • Lot marking / mill test documents only after class + coating + length align; we do not invent ISO/CE/IATF badges on this public page
  • Samples, packing, and private-label marking only after the nut/washer set (04) is clear

Project documents that matter to the RFQ are shared privately when relevant.
